Probably mostly my fault. Since I run around without a top and doors so frequently I tend to forget to lock my doors when they are actually on.

Anyways I went out this morning to find my passenger door open. No one has used that door in the past week or so, so I know it wasn't a "forgot to close".

Luckily, nothing was missing (except $0.32), but this is also my fault, as I am so used to, again, running around without a top or doors that I make habit of leaving nothing of value in the car.

Broken into =/= unauthorized entry.

This happened to me a few weeks ago. Left Blazer doors unlocked and in the night someone entered the vehicle and used the Leatherman in the center console to attempt prying the radio out. Didn't work, faceplate came off but radio stayed in. The fool even left behind the tool that was worth way more than my shit radio. All the pieces snapped back together and radio still worked.

Well "Jeep got broken into" flows better than "Jeep got unauthorized entried".... (no, I no can English)

At least you got a Leatherman out of it.

sounds like what happened to me a few weeks ago. Nothing was taken but a few quarters. They left the change holder on my car. Assholes.

Couldn't even put it back where it came from. Some people just have no respect.

In college I lived in section 8 housing and break ins happened pretty much every week. I always left my doors unlocked as the universal 'no, there's nothing worth stealing in this 13 year old Honda' sign. Still had my passenger window broken twice. Sounds like your attempted thief was more considerate.

It's happened before in the area, our security has informed us of these roaming "gangs" of presumably teenagers who just walk the streets checking for unlocked doors and anything "valuable" they can grab and go. Change, glasses, on a few occasions womens purses which were carelessly left on the seat of an unlocked car...

I never lock my Miata. There's nothing in it of value, I don't even have a radio. I'd prefer someone break in by opening the door and not slashing the top.

So glad it wasn't worse though. My wife had a VW cabrio in high school that was broken into by slashing the convertible top. The ripped out the cheap ass factory stereo (worth ~.32 cents) in the worst way leaving a tangled gnarled mess on her dash an a hole in her top. Nothing else was in the car to be stolen.

Having a soft top get slashed would be the worst, especially if they got away with virtually nothing. Tops aren't cheap to replace.

With a soft top, it's actually recommended to just leave it unlocked. Usually whats inside is cheaper to replace than the top itself, and if they see what they want, they will slash the top.

I have a hard top on now (and full doors too), but, I also more often have my bikini top and no doors.

Yeah, the hard top helps, but aren't Wranglers still the easiest vehicle to break into?

Not most likely to be broken into, but easiest is what I am saying. The Civic's are like that because the fanboys think the DOHC 4 is a mystical powerhouse, and take gangsta rap too seriously.
